Don Muang Tollway Extension

Don Muang Tollway Project, constructed under a BOT contract for Don Muang Tollway Public Company Ltd. Owner is the Department of Highways. Contractor was Dywidag Consortium JV.

Construction of the original 15.2 km. Tollway commenced in 1991 and was opened in 1994.

The 6.7 km. Northern Extension to Don Muang Airport and the Southern Connection to the Second Stage Expressway was commenced in 1997 and completed in 1999. The northern extension was partially opened in time for the ASEAN Games in 1998.

The Tollway was constructed above the existing Vivaphadi-Rangsit highway, being the main highway from Bangkok to the north of Thailand. Existing traffic flow had to be maintained at all times during construction.

110 ton precast crossbeam lifted with mobile crane.

Some 500 cross beams were fabricated and transported to the job site for erection.

Over 5000 girders, typical span of 30 m. were fabricated for the tollway and extensions.

The Tollway has been further extended northwards. The new section was funded and operated by the Department of Highways. The total length of Tollway is now some 29 km.
