The project was constructed on an undeveloped swamp area, which had to be dewatered and improved to permit access for construction plant.

The depot platform has a plan area of some 250,000 sq.m. and is supported on 16,900 pre-cast concrete spun piles (60 cm. diameter), some 30 m. long.

Modular pre-cast reinforced concrete slabs are supported on temporary clamps at the pile head. An in-situ concrete upper slab is poured to form a composite deck slab. This design concept minimized the need for form work and support from the soft ground.

The piles are designed to carry vertical loads, together with lateral loads and deflections under train traction loads and thermal effects.

The completed platform provides stabling and maintenance facilities for the initial MRTA system, and can be extended to suit future requirements.

The project was complete ahead of schedule in February 2002. The depot was the first contract to be completed in the 20km subway project, running from Hua Lampong to Bang Sue.
